Key Principles of the Master's Discourse Foundation: Normative Legitimation and Social Consolidation

Денис Андреевич Щукин, Denis Shchukin

Abstract

The article is attempted to analyze the conceptual relations between the figures of the Master and the Slave that represent the socio-political structures of the modern state. The analysis is built on the basis of contradistinction: the need for rootedness and the need for individualization bring an equal pleasure to the subject while they are implemented. Satisfaction of these needs suggests acting out the masochistic script and appeals to non-existent desires of the Master. The figure of the Master is at the center of the paradox: on the one hand, its passivity guarantees the activity of other social and political structures, on the other hand, it demonstrates the political will, which allows the political system to resolve internal conflicts.
